MEET THE SPEAKER
Jack Newby
Skilled Non-Profit Professional
Jack Newby is a highly experienced non-profit professional with over 38 years in the sector, specializing in organizational management, program development, and government affairs. His career began at The LGBTQ+ Center in Long Beach, where he played a pivotal role in launching the first free anonymous HIV testing clinic in the U.S. He has held leadership positions at a variety of organizations, including the Mizell Senior Center in Palm Springs and Desert AIDS Project, where he founded the Public Policy Department. In this role, Jack worked closely with California Senators and Congressional Representatives to advocate for HIV/AIDS programs, making frequent trips to Washington, DC to influence national policies.
Jack's expertise extends to his role as Director of the San Francisco HIV Health Services Planning Council, covering San Francisco, Marin, and San Mateo counties. Upon returning to Palm Springs, he resumed his work at Mizell Senior Center, where he helped expand the Meals on Wheels program and introduced the A Matter of Balance Program to multiple locations throughout the Coachella Valley. Most recently, Jack served as the Executive Director of The Joslyn Center in Palm Desert for seven years. Under his leadership, the Center saw significant growth in membership and programming, including the establishment of the nationally recognized Joslyn Wellness Center, which promoted a holistic approach to senior wellness. He also launched new fund development initiatives and helped establish an Endowment Fund for the organization.
